GENOME FEATURES OF MODERATELY HALOPHILIC POLYHYDROXYALKANOATE-PRODUCING YANGIA SP. CCB-MM3
The complete genome of a halophilic bacterium, Yangia sp. CCB-MM3, which was isolated from soil sediment in the estuarine mangrove of Malaysia is described here. The genome provides an insight into the genes or pathways governing the physiology and metabolic potential of Yangia. Analysis of its genome sequence revealed the presence of a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) biosynthesis pathway. The PHA production was tested in vitro and was confirmed in this strain. Owing to the capability of Yangia to grow in high salt condition that reduces contamination rate, this strain is a potential candidate for industrial biotechnology near future.
